Highlighting Certified Paint Solutions that Support Better Indoor Air Quality

Booth #616 | Greenbuild International Conference & Expo 2025

Benjamin Moore Eco Spec® interior paint cans in multiple finishes, Certified asthma & allergy friendly® for low VOC emissions. Showcase at Greenbuild 2025

The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program is proud to highlight our Certified partner Benjamin Moore, who will be exhibiting at Greenbuild 2025 at Booth #616. Greenbuild is one of the most influential global events for sustainability, design, and building innovation, bringing together architects, manufacturers, and thought leaders committed to shaping a more sustainable and resilient built environment.

Presented in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Greenbuild unites professionals who are advancing the next generation of standards and materials that improve sustainability, resilience, equity, and wellness in the spaces where we live, learn, and work. It’s the hub where leaders collaborate to create a better quality of life for all, making it a fitting venue for Benjamin Moore to showcase their Certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Eco Spec® paint, developed to support improved indoor air quality.

Eco Spec® and the Importance of Indoor Air Quality

During and after application, paint can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), chemicals that can contribute to poor IAQ and irritate the eyes, nose, and airways, particularly for people with asthma or allergies. Even after paint has dried, VOCs may continue to off-gas into indoor environments.

Benjamin Moore has long been a leader in paint technology, designing solutions that help address these concerns. Eco Spec®, which has been part of the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program for more than a decade, is formulated to meet stringent scientific criteria for low VOC emissions and ingredient compliance, verified through independent testing.

The Value of Third-Party Certification

While many paints claim to be “low-VOC,” not all meet the rigorous testing required to confirm that emissions remain below defined thresholds after application. That’s where independent certification plays a crucial role.

The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program, operated by Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) in partnership with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), evaluates paints for both chemical composition and performance. Certified paints are tested at 24 hours and 14 days after application to ensure emissions stay low throughout the most critical periods of drying and curing, reflecting real-world use where quick return-to-service is essential in homes, schools, and healthcare settings.

In addition, the program confirms that allergenic and sensitizing chemicals are as low as possible or not present, offering additional assurance for those prioritizing better indoor air quality.

A Decade of Partnership and Recognition

Benjamin Moore’s participation in the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program spans more than ten years, reflecting a consistent commitment to innovation, sustainability, and improved indoor environments.

Earlier this year, Benjamin Moore was recognized with the Certification Program’s Award for Innovation and Environmental Excellence, celebrating the company’s leadership in developing products that address key aspects of IAQ.

From residential projects to large-scale commercial spaces, Benjamin Moore’s Certified Eco Spec® paint demonstrates how verified, science-backed products can support better indoor air quality and align with the evolving sustainability standards at the heart of Greenbuild.

Aligning with Green Building Goals

Eco Spec® paints are Certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® and align with leading building frameworks, including:

  • LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits for Low-Emitting Materials
  • WELL Building Standard Feature X06 Part 1b4, recognizing paints that contribute to air quality and occupant wellbeing

For professionals attending Greenbuild, these alignments underscore the importance of specifying products that not only meet performance needs but also support sustainability goals. Eco Spec® offers both, contributing to helping teams design and build spaces that are energy-efficient, low-emitting, and conducive to better indoor air quality.
